VOLVO OPEN 70 CLASS

The Volvo Open 70 is the boat class defined to contest the Volvo Ocean Race. This class first appeared in the 2005-2006 edition replacing the previous Volvo Open 60 that were in use since 1993.

The amendments between the previous boats of 60 feet and the new version of 70 have been very significant in its origins upgrading the performance, using new materials such as kevlar and carbon fiber allies, along with the most recent resins that enabled to optimize the ratio between the weight and the resistance of boats.

In the rules of the class were also included some technologies which reflect the recent trends in high performance boats at world level as for example the canting keels – which can reach an angle of 40 degrees.
